Within Europe, ASM Global operates some of the region’s largest and most prestigious arenas, convention / exhibition centers, and theatres. ASM Global Europe’s portfolio includes 30 unique entertainment venues across eight countries, with a leading presence in the U.K., Sweden, and Germany. Flagship venues include AO Arena, one of the busiest and largest venues in the world; the Avicii Arena, Tele2 Arena, and Friends Arena in Sweden; and Rudolf Weber Arena in Germany. In the U.K., ASM’s CGC Event Caterers is a long-established caterer with a distinctive British identity that brings decades of experience as a highly regarded provider of great food, attentive service and craftsmanship. ASM Global Europe’s primary office is located in Manchester, England, with approximately 400 full-time and 3,100 part-time employees across the region.
The Role
The Vice President Programming, Europe carries the overall responsibility for developing and curating the most exciting, relevant, and commercially successful calendar for the portfolio of stadiums, arenas, theatres and convention centers in the UK and Europe. The VP Programming, Europe will be expected to lead the UK Content team, support the individual venues and regional content teams to deliver and exceed their event revenue targets in a manner that achieves optimal returns, whilst developing a world-class and diverse calendar of broad content.
Key Accountabilities
– To lead, manage and motivate the UK Content team to drive content in all genres including music, sport, other live events and C&E (B2B) for all the existing and upcoming venues in the UK.
– Deliver strategies and action plans to maximise the number of events across of a range of genres, in order to exceed revenue and event targets and future proof the event calendars for all UK venues.
– Work closely with the Global Chief Content Officer to implement global strategies and initiatives and leverage the global network and client relations.
– Lead and develop European multivenue and multimarket agreements with promoters and event-organisers.
– Provide the appropriate level of coaching, leadership and strategic support to the Content team in Sweden, Germany and other European markets.
– Develop the communication, collaboration and sharing of best practice within the European Content teams.
– Lead the development and execution of the future Manchester strategy.
– Ensure the content budgets and targets for all venues in the UK and Europe are achieved.
– Grow the profile of ASM Global venues within the music, sport, C&E and creative industries through promoter and industry relationships; enhance the profile amongst non-traditional venue promoters/producers and establish positive relations with agents and artist management.
– Be aware of market trends and competitive elements within the industry, including other venues and potential clients and to utilise this knowledge to develop the appropriate strategy, proactively securing future business.
– To work closely with the General Managers, Global Partnership, and the venues commercial team to ensure partnerships, ancillary revenue and business delivery achieves optimum performance levels.
– Tracking the progress in bookings, financial forecasts, KPIs and other relevant objectives and create reporting to keep key stake holders updated. Develop and implement mitigation measures where necessary to reach targets.
– Apply commercial acumen and industry knowledge to ensure we get the best deals possible in order to maximise returns; pro-actively mitigate risks and avoid cannibalisation across sites.
– Continuously seek ways to improve personal, team and business performance.
– Ensure that all relevant information is communicated speedily and accurately in a way that ensures that the information is received and easily understood.
– Undertake any other relevant duties or reasonable requests as requested by the SVP Operations, Europe and any other member of the Executive leadership team.
– Understand and promote the importance of Equality & Diversity in the work place.
Skills and competencies required
– A minimum of 5 years in a similar position or at Senior Director level in the live entertainment industry.
– Demonstrable experience in leadership and managing a sales team with senior sales managers.
– Effective team leader, able to lead by example and drive the achievement of business results.
– Relevant high calibre and active industry contacts and well developed relationships with key promoters, agents, sports associations and event organisers; especially in the UK market.
– Previous experience within an entertainment sales environment which can be demonstrated by a track record of securing quality content.
– Experience of costing and budgeting events.
– Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
– High standards of professionalism and integrity.
– Excellent communication skills.
General information
– The requirements of the business are such that a degree of flexibility is necessary and some evening and weekend work will be required.
– There may be a requirement to travel to other ASM Global Venues from to time, as well as representing ASM Global at industry events.
