Resident arts groups continue programming at Civic Plaza – City of Bloomington

In September 2022, Artistry announced that it was struggling financially coming out of COVID-19 and approached the Bloomington City Council for financial support in October. After much deliberation, public comment, and a thoughtful discussion, the City Council voted down Artistry’s funding proposal and asked their board to find alternate funding sources for the support that they need.
Artistry is one of seven independent, nonprofit resident arts groups that holds a lease agreement with the City of Bloomington for facility use of spaces in the Center for the Arts. The Council’s decision to not provide financial support to Artistry does not significantly impact the other arts organizations that call Bloomington Center for the Arts home. Angelica Cantanti Youth Choirs, Bloomington Chorale, Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, Continental Ballet, the Medalist Concert Band and the NOTEable Singers are independent nonprofit businesses governed separately from Artistry. These other resident arts groups will continue to operate and provide performances, education opportunities, and other programs in the Bloomington Center for the Arts regardless of what happens to Artistry.
