Blockchain protocol NEAR announced the launch of JavaScript Software Development Kits (JS SDKs) that will allow 20 million JavaScript developers to write smart contracts as well as develop Dapps on its platform.
Web3 development just got a whole lot easier for Web2 developers! 🚀

NEAR is excited to unveil its awaited JavaScript SDK at ETHToronto.

NEAR’s JS SDK is a key move to democratize Web3 development.

The big announcement came from NEAR founder Illia Polosukhin while attending Korean Blockchain Week on August 9. The launch of JS SDKs on the NEAR protocol will broaden blockchain development.
The integration of JS SDKs on NEAR will allow JavaScript developers to participate in the blockchain network without having knowledge of other programming languages such as Solidity, Rust, or others.
The deployment of JS SDKs is alongside NEAR’s Rust SDK, which means developers with knowledge of one of two languages can build applications on the NEAR protocol.

Illia Polosukhin stated during the launch, “Developers can spend less time learning a new language and more time building. Millions of developers already know how to program in JavaScript. Enabling this group to build novel applications on NEAR is a critical step in achieving our vision of a billion users interacting with NEAR.”
He added, “There’s about 20 million JavaScript developers in the world. Probably like every developer one way or another wrote JavaScript in their life. And what we allow you to do is to write smart contracts in JavaScript.”
Polosukhin also responded to the JS SDKs’ compatibility over the Ethereum Virtual Machine remark. He clearly stated that he sees Ethereum as a competitor for NEAR and the launch will be only limited to NEAR.
However, there are also ways out there to create EVM-compatible smart contracts from SDK.
