CHESTERTOWN — “Ocean of Possibilities” is this year’s theme for Kent County Public Library’s summer reading experience for all ages.
According to a news release, the summer reading experience includes reading challenges for all ages, as well as programs and special events.
Those who join will have the opportunity to win prizes, create connections and celebrate reading.
Stop by any KCPL branch to pick up a community scavenger hunt form.
Earn entries for the scavenger hunt raffle by completing activities and sharing photos of the scavenger hunt adventures.
Turn the form in by Thursday, Aug. 11 for a chance to win a family pack of tickets to the Maryland State Fair.
In 2021, KCPL’s summer reading goal was 250,000 minutes. Hundreds of readers of all ages participated, logging 569,732 minutes — double the goal.
This summer, the summer reading goal is 750,000 minutes.
All age groups — babies, kids, teens and adults — are welcome to join the fun and count the minutes they read this summer toward the library’s collective goal.
To start, register online.
The library’s summer events have already begun.
For week three, the National Aquarium presents sharks, teaching participants what is true and what is myth about sharks.
Those age 5 and older can learn about sharks 4 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at the Chestertown branch.
Teens age 13 to 17 are welcome to go ocean retro and get groovy creating a tie-dye masterpiece.
Dye a tote bag or bring a plain white shirt or other item.
Registration is encouraged, though walk-ins are welcome.
Tie-dying will begin 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at the Chestertown branch.
Adults can also get in on the fun and dive into the charcuterie trend by creating a shark-themed board.
Registration is required for the 6 p.m. event on Thursday, July 7 at the Chestertown branch.
