It’s that time of year! New York Comic Con just dropped the programming for the 2022 edition in a handy database format, so you can search by key words or day or room.
But what if….you wanted to see everything in one place like a convention guide or text file? There will be no print con guide this year, so you wil be out of luck. But courtesy of the fine folks at ReedPop and DKR, we are able to EXCLUSIVELY present this text file of all the panels, including participants.

10:30am to 11:30am: Tween-Age Dreams: Comics as a Tool for Discovery and Self-Identity:
The middle school years can be an uncertain time as tweens begin to leave childhood behind and take on greater responsibilities as they enter teenage-hood. In this panel librarians and educators will discuss how recent comics like Frizzy and others can be used as a tool to help tweens discover the wider world and explore and formulate a more concrete sense of self-identity.
10:45am to 11:45am: Can We Finally Admit That Games Should be in Classrooms?:
School has often been a source of frustration for many gamers. Too much homework too little creativity and no connections between content and real-life are some of students’ go-to responses. HOWEVER what if we told you there are a bunch of teachers that are pushing the boundaries of the classroom to not only encourage gaming but utilize game-based learning tabletop games and video games as perfect catalysts for student learning? 10:45am to 11:45am: NYCDOE Civics for All Comics Group – an inside look!:
Why would the nation’s largest school district become a comics publisher? To save democracy! Join the New York City Department of Education to learn about how their original comics can be used to make civics and historical concepts accessible to young people. Attendees will be introduced to and receive copies of the Civics for All Comics Group’s five original comics created in collaboration with some of the country’s best known comic creators. Members of the NYCDOE social studies and civics team will be joined by some of their amazing comics industry collaborators on this panel!
11:15am to 12:15pm: Defending Manga:
This panel will be an open discussion about the popularity and challenges of manga in the Western world. While there is no doubt that anime and manga are popular here in the states, there is still a controversy surrounding manga (representation, subject matter, and the list goes on). With this panel, our team of specialists will discuss our roles as educators in regards to providing our patrons with the literature and information they desire, as well as address the recent, concerning actions of book banning that have been occurring throughout the nation.
12:00pm to 1:00pm: Case Studies: Comic Books and Manga in the Classroom:
For years kids have stuck comic books in textbooks and avoided homework by going to the local comic store. Comic books and graphics novels were seen as at best recreational reading material. This however could not be farther from the truth! Emerging research shows that comics and graphic novels are motivating support struggling readers enrich the skills of accomplished readers and are highly effective at teaching all subject areas not just English. Join us as we explore just how crucial comics and graphic novels are to include in a class curriculum and collaborate on how we can include them in our curriculums!

12:00pm to 1:00pm: From Pixton to Zines: Creating Effective Comics Programming in Libraries:
Join The New York Public Library’s Youth Tech team and branch librarians as they discuss the successes and challenges of implementing comics-based programming in a library setting. The Youth Tech team will describe how easy-to-use programs like Pixton empower youth as comics creators and develop their artistic and narrative voice. Branch librarians will discuss the effectiveness of using Pixton with their teen audiences as well as how to integrate comics-friendly programs such as zine-making comic book clubs drawing programs webcomic read-alouds and more!
12:15pm to 1:15pm: Yes! But How? Building LGTBQ+ Affirming Schools through Comics:
Are you a student, educator, librarian, dean, school, or district leader, parent/guardian interested in elevating queer voices through comics or best practices for LGBTQ+ inclusion in schools? Are you concerned about anti-LGBTQ+ efforts amassing in some school districts? Or just interested in how you might use comics as a tool for professional learning? Then join New York City Public School’s Department of Social Studies & Civics along with creators historians and artists as we explore NYCDOE-created comics and resources for professionals and youth. Attendees will receive copies of a resource guide and two original comics—one for professional learners and one for students.

Samira Ahmed (Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit) and Preeti Chhibber (Spider-Man’s Social Dilemma) are in conversation to discuss being South Asian American creatives bringing new perspectives to some of Marvel’s greatest legacy characters. Moderated by Swapna Krishna (PBS Engadget).

The boys have ARRIVED. Join anime Youtubers CDawgVA, Gigguk and The Anime Man as they answer your questions and talk about their absolute trash tastes on a fine fine Thursday afternoon.

The demand for manga is at an all time high but librarians still have so many questions! Join manga industry experts from Yen Press, Viz Media, and Kodansha as we discuss the value of manga in libraries! What’s new, what’s upcoming, and how to get that manga in your library!
12:45pm to 1:45pm: Photographers of color and their Impact on Cosplay and Pop Culture:
This panel will examine the impact that photographers make when capturing cosplayers especially cosplayers of color. We will discuss how it affects positive self esteem telling stories and inspiring people of color to feel confident in cosplaying any character they want.

1:30pm to 2:30pm: Pop-Culture Fandom and Comics in the College Classroom:
Historically panels on pop-culture in the classroom have prioritized K-12 students. But what about college students? There is a stigma that pop-culture fandom and comics are not “serious enough” for them. In this panel we will share how we incorporate pop-culture into our own courses and how you might do the same – whether you are a professor or a student! From Harry Styles to Game of Thrones Supernatural Marvel and more we discuss the validity of pop-culture in the college classroom.

Meet COSMODA the organizers of Cosplay Runway, a professional runway coming to a major fashion week near you. As the streaming wars evolve into the IP wars there has never been a better time to be a storyteller and the power of fandoms being cultivated via storytelling tech platforms like Wattpad and WEBTOON (which have a combined 176M+ audience a month) is proving to be a winning formula. But how do you build that fandom and longevity when you’re starting at the beginning of your author journey? Hear from best-selling Wattpad and WEBTOON authors spanning a variety of genres from romance and horror to action and adventure about getting started as a storyteller growing a fanbase and finding new fans in new formats.

The DC origin series Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler follows Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne and his wife Martha, before they become Bruce Wayne’s parents. Season three, premiering October 6 as a Max Original, begins after a five-year time jump: the civil war is over, and a cultural revolution has changed the world for better or worse – ushering in a new age of Super Heroes and Supervillains. I’m offering the techniques I’ve learned from my bachelor degree in costume design to help cosplayers take their cosplay to the next level. Head down under for “Koala Man,” a brand-new animated comedy from the creators of “Rick and Morty” and “Pokémon Detective Pikachu” coming to Hulu! 4:30pm to 5:30pm: Ultraman Connection LIVE in New York:
You are invited to witness the arrival of Ultraman to New York City in this spectacular panel, which will be revealing franchise-wide plans for the coming year and celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Ultraseven TV series. Appearing live at the panel, direct from Tsuburaya Productions in Japan, will be Ultraman, Ultraseven, and anime Suit Ultraman characters for photo ops with you! 4:45pm to 5:45pm: WEBTOON + DC: Building a New Generation of Fans and Heroes:
DC is home to legendary superheroes with its pantheon of characters breaking new ground in comics TV and film. And amongst the many first for DC’s cast of incredible characters is a foray into the swiftly expanding and ever more popular format: webcomics In the style of a classic comic book team-up WEBTOON and DC came together in 2021 to create a powerful creative partnership that merges the slice-of-life genre that reigns supreme on Webtoon with some of the DC Universe’s most well-established superheroes including Batman Vixen Zatanna and Red Hood. This panel will provide an in-depth look into how DC and WEBTOON are giving readers fresh stories that aren’t beholden to years of lore while also remaining true to these legendary heroes in an evolving format.

The Black Improv Alliance is a nationwide network of Black improvisers many of whom are also big old nerds. When Black Panther came out we were first in line in full Wakandan regalia – accents and everything. Improv is all about creating fully fleshed characters and responding to the action of the moment and we’re excited to share tips and exercises for effectively embodying a character beyond wearing the costume. Anyone can pull on a Spideysuit but we’ll give you applied-improv based tools to help you truly become your best Peter Parker. Say yes (and!) to the intersection of improv and cosplay!

Gross has never been so tasty! Join the team behind The Garbage Pail Kids Cookbook and the Garbage Pail Kids books, Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine, chef Elisabeth Weinberg, author and producer Matt Stine, and celebrated illustrator Joe Simko as they reveal the gory details and behind-the-scenes stories of creating these repulsive projects, sure to appeal to every generation of Garbage Pail Kids fans. Sit down with some of your favorite authors writing in the fantasy space as they discuss the fantasy heroines they love, crafting their own badass characters, and how they smash the patriarchy with every word they write.
6:45pm to 7:45pm: Nerdy & Flirty (A Nerdlesque 101):
A Panel on the basics of nerdlesque, the nerdy art of strip tease and how to make you favorite characters peel and reveal ready. There will be demos, performance clips and tips on how to make you favorite characters into burlesque bombshells. Our panel is a body positive, sex positive gender inclusive safe space where we teach nerds about combining their favorite characters with the sultry stiprtease that is burlesque.

Based on Lives of the Mayfair Witches, the best-selling Anne Rice trilogy, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches is a new contemporary gothic romance series with a propulsive mystery set in a decaying mansion in New Orleans’ Garden District. Join the EPs and cast as they discuss the creative process and bringing these characters from page to screen, as well as share some behind-the-scenes anecdotes from filming in New Orleans. Plus, we will reveal an exclusive asset from the series, which will be debuting in early 2023.

Join the executive producers and cast of The Legend of Vox Machina for an exclusive sneak peek of what’s to come in the animated series’ highly anticipated second season. We play a series of drawing games for 60 minutes where we invite prompts from he audience have some fun banter and of course…showcase some amazing art skills. Performed virtually during the pandemic and a huge hit in person this is a must see event. Join this group of award-winning artists and writers for what is always a great time!
8:30pm to 10:30pm: World Premiere – Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm:
Be among the first to experience the all-new mystery-adventure feature-length film based on the famed Adult Swim series when Warner Bros. Home Entertainment presents the World Premiere of Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm. The R-rated film features everyone’s favorite rascals, the Aqua Teens: the brainy Frylock, the mouthy Master Shake, the loveable Meatwad, and everyone’s favorite perverted neighbor, Carl, as they split up then get back together to fight everyone’s favorite corporate overlord, Amazin, led by everyone’s favorite tech mogul, Neil and his trusty scientist sidekick, Elmer. In addition to the screening, filmmakers and key cast members will hold a panel discussion, including audience Q&A. Carey Means (Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show), Dana Snyder (Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Squidbillies) and Dave Willis (Squidbillies, Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell) return as the voices of Frylock, Master Shake and Meatwad, respectively. The film also stars Peter Serafinowicz (The Tick), Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird), Natasha Rothwell (The White Lotus), Robert Smigel (Bob’s Burgers) and Tim Robinson (Detroiters). The movie was written and directed by series creators Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro and produced by Williams Street Productions.
