Additional Safe Summer Programming Announced – Weekly View

INDIANAPOLIS — Additional summer programming on Saturday nights for Indianapolis teens, in addition to Friday night Safe Summer activities, will be available to young people this summer. These events are free and designed to provide safe, meaningful spaces for young people to spend their time.
Through August 5, events will be held at Riverside and Garfield Parks from 7-10 p.m. and Washington Park from 8-11 p.m. on Fridays Activities include “cookies and canvas,”  photography and videography, and boxing. These events are geared towards teens ages 13 to 18.
Through July 30, youth ages 9-17 can enjoy several non-traditional sports at Brookside Park. Called “Sports of All Sorts,” this free program will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Saturdays. Each week, youth will have the opportunity to learn skills in aquatics, track & field, and lacrosse from highly trained leaders in each sport. In addition, Freewheelin’ Bikes will offer safe bike rides and teach bicycle safety.
OPHS has coordinated with the Indy Public Safety Foundation and community partners to host Safe Summer events on Friday nights since 2019. This is the first year that Saturday evening events will be offered as well.
All safe summer events are free of charge. No registration is required for Friday night events. Registration is encouraged for Saturday night events – parents can register their youth at Brookside Park Family Center, Indy Parks Customer Service office at Riverside Park, or any of our park facilities to register.
